ok this is kinda a goofy answer but try to follow me on this.
When changing the Trans fluid on a car, there are 2 extremes.
First one is if you do it every 40k or sooner with a complete flush. This ensures the parts stay in great condition for their life.
BUT this one applies more to you, when changing trans fluid seldomly, you should only do it every 90k to 120k and ONLY change what can come out due to gravity (aka approx 4 quarts) because the build up of the dirty fluid in the trans have deposited on crucial parts and is keeping them strengthened... a though cleaning could remove build up that was keeping the transmission from functioning properly. the reason you are even changing part of the fluid to to add some needed lubricants and additives to the current fluid.How many mile should i change transmission fluid for my Toyota Camry 1999?

one of the most important factors that determine a transmission u forgot to mention: is it automatic, or manual?
automatic (which i think it is) trans fluid is recommended to change after 80.000 kms. Or u could read it up on ur owner's manual if u may. (differs by manufacturer) It takes about 4- 4.5 quarts of ATF Dexron Mercon III
Manual on the other hand needs less caring (unless there is a huge problem) they change it 100, 120 thousand kms. and takes about 3-4 quarts of gear oil, or manual transmssn oil. both of those levels are checkable (if there is such a word) Automatic is with a dipstick (red) with idleing engine, manual from underneath with a chacking bolt taken out. Everybody charges different. they go between $40 and $200.
