How many quarts of transmission fluid should be in a V-6 engine?

My transmission fluid is leaking from my 2000 Ford Taurus. I went to get my fluid changed - They said it was bone dry(Tran Fluid) He only put one quart in. How many should I add myself? How many quarts of transmission fluid should be in a V-6 engine?
check the manualHow many quarts of transmission fluid should be in a V-6 engine?
Check your owners manual for the fluid capacity of your transmission. If a shop said your tranny was %26quot;bone dry%26quot; then what is his definition of that? If the fluid was touching the stick, thats hardly bone dry. If it wasnt even showing, then check it yourself by setting your parking brake, putting wheelchocks under the tires, and have the car running and in neutral on level ground. Check the fluid level and adjust as needed. Do not overfill, as that can cause even more problems. I recommend getting the leaks handled asap or you run the risk of cooking that tranny and either rebuilding/replacing it, or trashing the car and getting a new one.

Your trans is either a AXOD or a AX4N. It will hold around 12 quarts when it is %26quot;bone dry%26quot;. Your trans probably isnt %26quot;bone dry%26quot;so start the engine, put car in park (not neutral) and add 1 quart at a time until it is on the stick and then add a little at a time until it is in the checkered area of the dipstick. Get that leak fixed ASAP.How many quarts of transmission fluid should be in a V-6 engine?
the axod or the ax4n or equivalent usually hold about 14 qts if i remember right, but ill bet that the tech only looked at the dipstick and saw that it was dry and made a comment that he had not researched. perhaps the dipstick was dry but that should only take a quart or two to resolve. You may wish to reword your question. You should never put tranny fluid in an engine. They are two entirely different fluids. How many quarts of transmission fluid should be in a V-6 engine?
it takes at least 9 quarts put you need to put in only one at a time and then run the car and then check tip stick keep doing this ontill it,s full ..How many quarts of transmission fluid should be in a V-6 engine?
Ford Taurus has to be one of the worst cars made, they always have transmission problems

2000 Escalade transmission fluid. The truck has been parked for about eight months...now what?

I wanted to know since the truck has been parked for so long...I would very much like to (or better yet have to) change the transmission fluid...how much should I add to the trans.? I'm asking because of the hi/lo 2x2/4x4 four wheel drive option that is in the drivetrain.2000 Escalade transmission fluid. The truck has been parked for about eight months...now what?
The transmission for this truck holds 15 quarts of fluid. The only way to get all the fluid replaced is by doing a flush with a machine. If you do a drain and fill by taking the plug off, you'd be lucky to get 5 quarts out if not less.2000 Escalade transmission fluid. The truck has been parked for about eight months...now what?
Did it all leak out or something???

If it didn't leak out, why would want to add any???

I'm confused??

ADDED:

They sit at the dealers lots for months...All they do is stick a battery in it, start it up and drive away.......

  • How often should the transmission fluid be changed on a '99 Buick Regal GS?

I just changed it at 99,000 miles.. the guy said the old fluid looked all burnt... Did I shorten the life of my transmission by not changing it sooner and how long should I expect the tranny to last on this car?How often should the transmission fluid be changed on a %26039;99 Buick Regal GS?
all cars are a little different. They range from as low as 15k miles all the way up to 100k miles. I am pretty sure that your car is going to recommend 30k miles. Have you had the car since new and if not do you know if it has ever been changed? You didn't hurt anything by changing it. People always say that it does more damage to change it than to just let it go after you have that many miles on it. But I don't agree with that. If you smoked for 30 years and then quit your lungs wont get worse they will get better. Now the smoking has already damaged your lungs but it can only help the remaining life of them by quiting. Same thing with the tranny fluid. By waiting so long you probably did do some damage to the clutches but changing the fluid will help the car shift better. I would do it every 20-30 k miles from now out. Depending on how long you plan on keeping the car.How often should the transmission fluid be changed on a %26039;99 Buick Regal GS?
my fords show like 24 months for trans fluid changes but on some cars I go every year to get the most life FWD cars are a little weak compared to RWD cars and trucks in the trans area one more thing to consider is an auxilary trans cooler every 20 degrees you drop your trans fluid temp you double the life is what they say as I recallHow often should the transmission fluid be changed on a %26039;99 Buick Regal GS?
fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles dont be scared of burnt fluid as long as the bottom of trans. pan wasnt severly dirty dont worry about it .How often should the transmission fluid be changed on a %26039;99 Buick Regal GS?
If it's never been changed do it thing I would change it every 25,000 miles change the filter tooHow often should the transmission fluid be changed on a %26039;99 Buick Regal GS?
should be changed every 30,000 miles. yes you probly did shorten the life of your trans. they usually last about 130,000 miles. How often should the transmission fluid be changed on a %26039;99 Buick Regal GS?
if you waited to change it at 99,000 miles you should have never changed it, I have seen cars go that long then they change the fluid and it loosens up all that old sludge in there and ends up clogging everything up and in about a week the trans. goes out.How often should the transmission fluid be changed on a %26039;99 Buick Regal GS?
you should chang the fluid and filter ever 50,000 miles but a lot of pepole never changed there fluid in there car and there transmissions last longer then the mortor.

    Transmission Fluid Changes

How much does it usually cost to have your transmission fluid changed and does anyone have a good recommendation of where to go? I have a 98 Honda Accord.Transmission Fluid Changes
I just got my transmission flushed and the filter changed at a dodge dealership for $119 dollars. I would suggest that if you are going to get a transmission flush to do it at a honda dealership or the dealership you got your car at.

Since your car is a 98 I would just reccomend a transmission fluid change and not a flush along with a filter changeTransmission Fluid Changes
Not sure of the cost as I do my own. It'll vary from place to place. I'd recommend having a transmission shop do it or a dealer. Definitely wouldn't let a Jiffy Lube type place do it. Don't get a flush. MAke sure they change the fluid and the filter.Transmission Fluid Changes
I am a transmission builder, I do not recommend changing the transmission fluid at all if you do not know the history of the car.

If the fluid is old use it again, never add brand new fluid to an old transmission, to do so will peel the clutches off and lay them in the transmission pan.

    Transmission fluid in Corolla 2000?

    got a corolla 2000, automatic.

    Needs transmission fluid changed!

Do i drain the old ? or just add some new? what type of fluid to i add?

any1 can give me step by step explanation

or a website where it will show me how to do it!

thanks a lot! Transmission fluid in Corolla 2000?
Any oil change place can do it for little money ($30) and a whole lot less hassle!

The pan must be removed as there is no %26quot;drain plug%26quot; , and there is a filter inside that must be replaced. The lack of a proper drain plug makes it a very messy task, installing the filter incorrectly and using the wrong torque sequence when re-installing the pan will cause leaks down the road.

How much transmission fluid does a 1993 Ford F150 need?

I am going to change the automatic transmission fluid and my Haynes manual says I need to add 17 quarts to refill it. Can this be right? People in the parts store said it was only ten, maximum but didn't seem sure.... Thanks.

    4.9L, E4OD, 2WD.How much transmission fluid does a 1993 Ford F150 need?
if you are only changing the pan gasket %26amp; tranny filter?

then you only need 5 quarts.

it holds a total of 10. five quarts in the pan %26amp; five quarts stay in the torqueconverter. How much transmission fluid does a 1993 Ford F150 need?
4.9 2wd it is going to be 5.25 quarts of fluid becuase your not dumpping out the conveter. How much transmission fluid does a 1993 Ford F150 need?
tim b hit it right on'How much transmission fluid does a 1993 Ford F150 need?
17 qt`s ? Where are you supposed to put the other 10 ? assuming you drained the converter. Haynes does not use spell check, hence 17 qt`s . If all you do is drain the pan, change the filter. Then you should need no more than 4-5 qt`sHow much transmission fluid does a 1993 Ford F150 need?
If you drop the pan than these guys are right. A good rule of thumb is to watch what you lose and replace it with a quart less, check fluid and fill accordingly.

However, MAKE SURE YOUR REPLACEMENT FLUID MATCHES WHAT YOU DRAINED. Mixing two different fluids is a recipe for disaster, especially in a Ford.

How often should transmission fluid and differential fluid be changed?

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger, if that matters. I know these are not supposed to be changed at the same time necessarily but I was told every oil change for the differentil fluid and about every 50,000 miles for the transmission fluid. How often should transmission fluid and differential fluid be changed?
yeah changing the transmission fluid every 50k miles should be fine it depends on how you drive it. and as far as changing the differential fluid is up to you some people don't change it but its like any other oil it breaks down over time and should be changed, i change mine every 50k miles or so.How often should transmission fluid and differential fluid be changed?
Just check it often and refill when necessary. How often should transmission fluid and differential fluid be changed?
Top off the dif fluid as necessary which will probably be never, and change the tranny fluid maybe at 100,000 miles unless you are having issues or leaks. How often should transmission fluid and differential fluid be changed?
the diff should be checked at every oilchange add fluid as needed but probably wont need it unless theres a leak it should b changed about every 50 thousand miles unless you find metal shavings in it wen u check it....the transmission is a diferent story i own a 2001 ranger and have a friend that works for the ford dealership, it is not uncommon to have worn bands in the trans.(very common in rangers) the dealership hear says 30 to 40 thousand miles but i do mine every third oil change or 12 thousand miles DO NOT have this done at a dealership they recycle the fluid you want NEW FRESH OIL it takes dextron 5How often should transmission fluid and differential fluid be changed?
I change mine in the truck every 10,000 milesHow often should transmission fluid and differential fluid be changed?
not really needed to do the rear end much at all trans once every two or three years... ive never change the rear end fluid just added when low
