Hey if you can check the automatic transmission fluid, you're doing better than 50% of Americans.
I hope you checked it while it was warm and with the engine RUNNING! (The proper way to check an automatic transmission)
If it was low, you add fluid through the dipstick hole. Typically with the use of a funnel.
However, be sure that you don't OVERFILL the transmission or you'll experience a slipping transmission.
Most transmissions go from the dipstick %26quot;low%26quot; to the dipstick %26quot;high%26quot; in a single PINT! This is half of what they sell. Typically transmission oil is sold in QUARTS. So if you are on the low side of the dipstick, only pour 1/2 of the bottle into your transmission to raise it up to the high mark. If you are only 1/2 down the dip stick marks, only pour 1/4 of your bottle into the transmission. (etc.)
To change the trans fluid is a little more intensive than a simple oil change, and I recommend taking it to a mechanic if you are not mechanically inclined. How do I add/change transmission fluid?
To add fluid just get a funnel and put in where the dipstick came out of and add some. changing the fluid is a pain in the butt, it invloves gaskets and filters and getting dirty. so just add it if you are a bad mechanic, leave that work to a real mechanic. ps dont overfill it add a little at a timeqHow do I add/change transmission fluid?
Hi,
You can add the transmission fluid from the measuring stick hole with a funnel. If you want to change it, you may need to remove the collection pan at bottom of the transmission. Some cars has screw plug to drain it easily but some do not. If your car do not have the plug, you will need to open the pan to drain them out. Remember to buy a filter kit if you do that. Add Dura lube transmission additives could help in the long run but optional. Also, don't forget to check the fluid capacity. You will get in trouble is you don't have enough fluid. Mine takes 7 qtrs. How do I add/change transmission fluid?
Check a Buick with the engine running and the transmission in %26quot;Park.%26quot; It should come to the between the %26quot;add%26quot; and %26quot;full%26quot; marks on the dipstick.
Changing the transmission fluid is another thing. How many miles are on the vehicle? If not over 75,000, I would recommend you take it to a Valvoline Instant Oil Change, or some other type lube outlet and request a transmission flush. They hook up to the transmission lines that run to your radiator and it changes virtually 100% of your transmission fluid. If over 75,000, I would go to your GM dealer and ask for their transmission service that includes a new filter and gasket. How do I add/change transmission fluid?
even i can do that, open your hood and look for the little cap that says trans fluid on it and then get a funnel and add it till you see its at the top again, check it in 2 days to see if its still low, if so you need to take your car in.
