Some cars have a drain plug on the transmission plug like the one on your oil pan. If not you need to take the pan off completely. When changing the fluid this way you will not be able to drop all of the fluid. A good portion will remain in the torque converter bell housing. If you are going this far you should also change the filter. You will also need to replace the pan gasket. This will come with the filter. The new fluid will be added threw the dip stick tube for the transmission. If you take your car to a jiffy lube, or equivalent lube center, they will generally pull your coolant lines and do a fluid flush.. Basically pump in new and blow out old. However this does not provide for filter replacement. It also doesn't allow for a good inspection of your transmission. How hard is it to change transmission fluid on my car? A ford Focus.
