I have a 95 Ford Mercury Mystique, and I actually need to add Lucas Transmission conditioner, to help with my gear slipping problem. I don't know where to find the dipstick.. is it the yellow one that seems to be underneath some other things? and i just use a funnel to put it in the dipstick hole, right? How do i change my transmission fluid?
Yup. That's the dipstick. Typically is IS yellow like you said, and should have a marking of a gear on it. On manual transmission automobiles you will not find a dipstick.
If it's been a while since your last tranny oil change go ahead and put fresh fluid in it, along with the lucas.
Good luck :)!How do i change my transmission fluid?
Yes,you are correct. How do i change my transmission fluid?
The lucas is a temporary helper. You should have your trans fluid changed, but ONLY if the fluid they are using conforms to the specifications listed in your OWNER's MANUAL FLUID SPECIFICATION SHEET. You must use fluid that clearly states on the label, %26quot;designed to met Ford spec's%26quot;. THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL TRANS FLUID. These fluids are car-maker specific. Remember that your torque converter holds at least 2-3 quarts of old, ineffective fluid. You will have to change the fluid 2-3 times to dilute down the %26quot;bad%26quot; stuff. I would only use Mobil One Synthetic trans fluid for Ford cars. It gets pricey because you will waste some of it. Be sure to change your filter, as well. Wash down the underside of the valve body with chlorinated brake clean. THis will dislodge potentially trapped clutch material that wanders around the trans cawe lloking for trouble. SEE??
