The owners manual says to inspect it at 30,000 %26amp; 90,000 miles but not to replace it. How can I tell if the fluid needs to be changed?2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - How often to change the transmission fluid?
I replaced my trans and rear differential with synthetic at 30k miles. My advice: change it. Spend a few bucks for the peace of mind.2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - How often to change the transmission fluid?
The differential oil on the rear wheel should replace roughly when you replace the timing belt.
For the clutch/transmission fluid, change it around 90k. However, it will depend how normal you drive the car or abusively driving (daily driving = normal; racing each other or drive fast = abusively).
Also, you can take out the dip stick of the transmission fluid, if it is still red-ish brown, you should be okay, if you have dark brown (like soy sauce, for example) you may need it to have it change.
BTW, make sure you bring it to the dealership to replace it....I found out that some no-experience mechanics will drain and fill which cause future problems....The dealership has a machine to maintain the existing fluid while adding the new fluid in....2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - How often to change the transmission fluid?
First thing I would ask is if you are the first owner of this car? If not change it. Both tranny and rear diff are not very expensive to do and you never know how the last owner drove the car. If you are the only owner, do you drive int he snow much? If so, the rear diff should be done sooner than later. Like Pauly said, just do it and you don't have to worry about it for a while.2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - How often to change the transmission fluid?
replace with royal purple max gear sae 75w-90. expensive but worth every penny. increase horse power through drive train, maximum gear life, exceeds gl-4 and gl-5 performance requirements, shock load protection, cooler gear box temperatures, and helps save gas. you need six quarts and it will be about $90 at auto zone.
