my trans fluid is bad, and how do I change itIm broke.I need to know how to change transmission fluid, detailed please.?
Warm the car to close to normal temperature

Lift the car on a jack and stands to get better access

Get a large and wide drain pan to collect the fluid

If automatic you will need to take the pan off. Get the proper socket and undo all the bolts on the pan and slowly let the fluid seep out. Sometimes there is a drain plug that you can undo. If it's a manual tranny you will have two bolts: a drain and a fill. Undo the top one (fill) first. It's much better than realizing you've drained all the fluid and can't get the fill plug open.

Let all the fluid drain. If automatic replace the pan with new gasket. Make sure to clean the magnet at bottom of pan.

tighten up all bolts to spec and add the amount of fluid you took out via the transmission dipstick. Make sure your are using the right fluid! Check owners manual if in doubt.

If your car is manual you will need the correct gear oil. The owners manual will have the details. Same with automatic, fill the tranny up with the amount that you took out. Usually with a manual transmission you fill it up until the fluid starts to drip out the fill plug. With an automatic start the car up and let it idle. Go through all the gear ranges: PRND21 ending in Park. Lift the dipstick and wipe it clean. Check and correct the level if necessary. With a simple drain and refill you won't be able to get all the fluid out from the torque converter. A flush will give you better results. When changing the fluid it makes sense to also change the filter (Automatic only). Make sure to check the fluid in a few days and to also look for any leaks.Im broke.I need to know how to change transmission fluid, detailed please.?

same as the oil.. there shoudl be a drain plug on it somewhere. take the plug out, drain into a bucket or something, put the plug in and dump the right amount of transmission fluid in it from the fill tube under the hood.. take the fluid to a lube place and see if they will recycle it for you.Im broke.I need to know how to change transmission fluid, detailed please.?
First, get the proper amount of fluid from the auto parts store, along with a drain pan that will hold that amount of fluid, and a new filter and seal kit. In most cases, you will need to loosen the pan bolts on the bottom of the transmission, but don't completely remove them. When you get them loose, locate a corner on the pan and only remove 6-8 of the bolts completely. Then loosen the rest of the bolts, moving away from the corner. That will allow you to drain the fluid from that corner, draining it into the pan (otherwise, you will have a big mess, and nothing in the pan). Once you remove the pan, wipe out the inside of it with a CLEAN cloth, looking for any small pieces of metal (that would be a sign of bigger problems). Also, look at the oil removed from the trans for darkening, or an unusual odor (ex. a burnt smell, or a brownish tint). After inspection, replace the filter and gasket (instructions should be in the kit). Then refill with the recommended amount of fluid, start the car, put it into gear, and wait for the trans and engine to warm up. Check for leaks, and make sure the trans is filled up, but not overfull. In 7-10 days, re tighten the pan bolts, as they will loosen up a little. Most auto parts stores have a tank for used oil disposal, usually for free.Im broke.I need to know how to change transmission fluid, detailed please.?
Disconnect the pressure line from the radiator and slip a long rubber line over it leading to a bucket.Start the engine and let it run until all the fluid is pumped out. This will remove the fluid more completely than draining the pan because it will also empty the torque converter.

If your trans is the type without a dipstick, look for a plug in the case to remove to show the level.
