Changing Transmission fluid in a Jeep Liberty?

Is Transmission fluid something that should be CHANGED OUT or can it be added to? Like buying a funnel and pouring a quart of new fluid in?

I want to make sure my fluids are good, but I need to get some transmission fluid, but I don't want to mess anything up.

I have a 2004 Jeep liberty, and if it needs to be changed, is it hard to do? And if i take it to a shop, how much do you think it will cost just for them to do this?

I live in Pensacola, FL.Changing Transmission fluid in a Jeep Liberty?
Yes it should be changed out, If I remember correctly everything 30 000miles.. However make sure the shop doing the work uses the correct Mopar ATF+4 trans fluid. If they do not it will cause damage to the transmission. Usually trans fluid flushes run around 200$. This will include the trans fluid filter, fluid and labor.Changing Transmission fluid in a Jeep Liberty?
Bite the bullet and take it to a trans shop, change the filter and adjust the trans shift points, and add new trans fluid. This is a high dollar replacement item, dont skimp.......Changing Transmission fluid in a Jeep Liberty?
My car has 150,000 original miles on the trans fluid. I wouldn't worry about it.Changing Transmission fluid in a Jeep Liberty?
if it,s just low then warm up your jeep good, park on a level surface, raise the rood, pull the stick out while it,s still running, wipe it off, put the stick back in, pull it back out and read it. if it reads low then put just enough in to where it shows full. smell the oil. if it smells burnt or looks dirty then change the fluid and filter. if it don,t have lots of miles on it and it changes gears good and the oil don,t smell burnt or it,s not dirty, you don,t need to change it.Changing Transmission fluid in a Jeep Liberty?
Transmission fluid can be changed. It isn't needed changed often unless the transmission is damaged. It isn't as easy a job as changing engine oil. Usually the trasnision pan has to be removed to get at the transmission filter, which is inside. Look in Chiltons Auto Repair manual to see if you want to go though all that- or if you can do it. Also, transmission fluid is specific to particular vehicles and if you put in the wrong fluid, it will damage the tranny by destroying the seals, and transmision multi-plate clutches.

If there isn't a problem, don't create one. I doubt your jeep needs a tranny fluid change this soon. Let the service dept look at it if it's acting up.
